I love my adorable red, Mini Cooper Countryman. It’s easy to park, fun to drive and hugs the road like no other. Recently, it needed some service. My thoughts of driving delight took a turn for the worse when I envisioned the repair costs. It was scary because, with car repairs, I anticipate a big cost even before I know what needs to be done. It’s not only the cost that you have to brace yourself for – but the conversation with the mechanic. This usually requires a second language degree, which I don’t have. When a mechanics brings up belts, carbon blasting, and tire pressure balancing and the repairs involved, it’s a foreign language, an exercise in “say what?!”, a one-sided conversation in which there is no rebuttal nor engagement. I feel like my wheels are spinning.
